Category: Cannot open link to PubMed abstracts
Question: When I click on the Read the Abstract... link, PubMed doesn`t open.
Answer:
This is likely because you have Windows XP Service Pack 2 installed on your computer (released August 25, 2004) and have the Popup Blocker Setting set to High. You can correct this problem by either of the following fixes:

Solution 1
(i) on the toolbar in Internet Explorer go to Tools / Internet Options and select the Privacy tab and then select Settings under the Popup Blocker area at the bottom of the screen;
(ii) in the Address of website allowed field, add http://bmjupdates.mcmaster.ca and then click the Add button. The bmjupdates+ website should now appear under the Allowed sites section.

Solution 2
2. follow the instructions for (i) in Solution 1 above then go to Notification and Filter Level and change the Filter Level from High to Medium.

Using either of the options above should allow PubMed to open in bmjupdates+. If you still are unable to access PubMed, please contact us at bmjplus@mcmaster.ca.

Category: Logging In
Question: Why am I unable to log in?
Answer:
This is likely because cookies are disabled in your browser. Either of the following solutions should correct the problem, however, Solution 1 is the more secure option:

Solution 1
In Internet Explorer, to Tools / Internet Options / Privacy, under the "Web sites" section, click on the Edit button, under Manage sites add http://plus.mcmaster.ca/kt to the Address of web site field and click on Allow.

Solution 2
In Internet Explorer, go to Tools /Internet Options /Privacy and move the security bar down until it no longer says Block All Cookies (about Medium-High on the scale should work, however, some browsers require the setting to be set at low).

Category: RSS Feeds
Question: What are RSS feeds and how do I use them in KT+?
Answer:
What is RSS?

RSS (Really Simple Syndication) is the new and easy way to receive automatic updates from websites. It is an XML file that can be read by special feed reading software. Instead of revisiting a site several times to check for updates, news readers scan for updates and display them for you. Using a news reader means you can stay in touch with many different sources of news and information.

How do I a get a news reader?

There are various news readers available for download from the Internet. Some of the best news readers are free. Click the following URL to locate one suitable for you: http://blogspace.com/rss/readers.

How do I use RSS?

First, install your news reader or aggregator software. The orange icons with "RSS" or "XML" denote an available feed. To subscribe, click on the icon and add the URL (from the address bar on your browser) into your reader. The reader will display the latest content specific to that feed, each with a synopsis and link to the full version of the information.

Want to learn more about RSS feeds?

There are many sites explaining what feeds do and how they work, such as this one at http://www.sixapart.com/about/feeds.
