The Epidemiology of Thrombosis With Thrombocytopenia Syndrome: Analogies With Heparin-Induced Thrombocytopenia

Ann Intern Med. 2022 Apr;175(4):604-605. doi: 10.7326/M22-0118. Epub 2022 Jan 18.

Abstract

In their article, See and colleagues reported a study of thrombosis with thrombocytopenia syndrome (TTS), also known as vaccine-induced immune thrombotic thrombocytopenia (VITT), a rare complication associated with receipt of the adenoviral-vectored COVID-19 vaccines ChAdOx1 nCoV-19 (Oxford/AstraZeneca) and Ad26.COV2.S (Janssen/Johnson & Johnson). The editorialists discuss the similarities of TTS with spontaneous heparin-induced thrombocytopenia.
